CA Medicare Announcement, Resources

No, AARP, Inc. formerly known as the American Association of Retired Persons, is a United States based membership and interest group, founded in 1958 by Ethel Percy Andrus, Ph.D., a retired educator from California, and Leonard Davis, founder of Colonial Penn Group of Insurance companies.

AARP currently has seven affiliated organizations:

  1. AARP Foundation, a non-profit charity that helps people over age 50 at social and economic risk.
  2. AARP Institute, a non-profit charity that holds some of AARP’s charitable gift annuity funds.
  3. Legal Counsel for the Elderly, a non-profit charity that provides low- or no-cost legal assistance to seniors in Washington, D.C.
  4. AARP Experience Corps, a non-profit charity that encourages people over age 50 to mentor and tutor school children
  5. AARP Insurance Plan, a non-profit social welfare organization that holds some of AARP’s group health insurance policies.
  6. AARP Financial Services Corporation, a for-profit corporation that holds AARP’s real estate.
  7. AARP Services Inc, a for-profit corporation that provides quality control and research.

While there is no such thing as an AARP Medicare Supplement Plan, AARP is able to help low income seniors by charging dues to its more than 37 million members. Additionally, money is raised by royalties from insurance companies that sold products referred by AARP.

AARP does a very selective process and ensure that its partners are credible and fit their standards.

AARP has been partnering with United Healthcare (UHC) for more than a decade. UHC is 14th on the Fortune 500 list and serves approximately 70 million individuals throughout the United States. By purchasing the UHC Medicare Supplement that is endorsed by AARP, you are not only purchasing a quality and safe product, but you can be happy about helping disadvantaged seniors.
