Annual Enrollment (AEP) for Medicare is just around the corner, as it begins October 15th and continues through December 7th. This is the time that folks who are enrolled in Medicare, both Part ” A” Hospital & Part ” B” Medical can make changes and/or additions. For example, you can switch your Medicare Advantage Plan or your Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) to another insurance carrier. If you’re only enrolled in original Medicare or have original Medicare and a supplement this would also be the time to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan.
Unfortunately, Open Enrollment doesn’t allow folks who have a Medicare Advantage Plan to enroll in a Medicare Supplement without Medical questions as this is only available within six months of your initial Medicare enrollment or within the Special Enrollment (SEP) guidelines, such as leaving employer health coverage or moving from a plans service area.
Some things you want to consider during this Annual Election Period…
- Have my prescriptions changed? As you may know drug formularies are subject to change from year to year, contact our office if there are any changes to the prescription you are taking, or if you have prescriptions that you are concerned about having covered.
- Is my provider still part of the plans network? Providers may choose to end their contract with a plan at any time, this means your provider network can change. If such changes are made the carrier will send written correspondence notifying you of the change, however it is still recommended that you review the provider directory and make sure the providers most important to you, are still accepting your plan. Call our office if you need assistance with checking providers.
- Overall does my plan still meet my needs? Just as plans may change, are health needs might change as well. It is important to consider if your current plan is still suitable for your needs whether it be, more frequent doctor’s office visits, prospective surgery expenses, budget changes, etc…whatever the case may be we are here to help you find the solution.
